The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) ensures that the people of Scotland receive high-quality social work, social care, and early years services from a competent and trusted workforce.

The SSSC protects the public by registering social workers, social care workers, and early years workers, setting standards for their practice and education, and supporting their professional development.

The SSSC is responsible for publishing the national codes of practice for individuals working in social work, social care, early years services, and their employers.

The organisation also registers individuals in these fields and ensures they adhere to the codes of practice. Additionally, the SSSC promotes and regulates the learning and development of these professionals and serves as the national lead for workforce development and planning in Scotland’s social work, social care, and early years sectors.

The SSSC Register was established under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to regulate social service workers and promote their education and training.

The SSSC has the power to investigate and take action against individuals who do not adhere to its standards of practice and conduct. In this way, the SSSC works to ensure that the people of Scotland receive the best possible social services.

SSSC Code of Practice for Social Service Workers

The Code of Practice for Social Service Workers outlines clear standards of professional conduct and practice that social service workers must uphold in their daily work.

These workers are responsible for ensuring that they meet these standards and do not cause harm to the individuals receiving services.

The Code of Practice is part of a broader set of legislation, practice standards, and employers’ policies and procedures that social service workers must comply with.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) expects social service workers to uphold the standards outlined in the Code and may take action against registered workers who fail to do so.

By adhering to the Code of Practice, social service workers demonstrate their commitment to providing high-quality care and ensuring the well-being of those in their care.
